Death Valley Activities
We can't wait for you to discover all the exciting activities that Death Valley has to offer. We have shared a few ideas below about how to spend your time in the park and would be happy to talk to you about these or other ways to fill your days while there. The Death Valley Map will help you find your way.
Nature's Extremes
- Walk onto the salt flats of Badwater, the lowest place in the Western Hemisphere
- Look down at the massive expanse of the valley from Dante’s View, but resist walking down as Michael once did not – sheer cliffs await you
- Visit Salt Creek, a hidden oasis and the home of the unique and surprisingly hardy pupfish
- Stare down into the heart of Ubehebe Crater, and take the walk to see Little Hebe Crater
Luxurious Relaxation
- Take a dip in the naturally heated pool at the 4-diamond Furnace Creek Inn
- Enjoy a poolside massage and one of the Inn's fabulous margaritas
- Play golf below sea level (while this is the lowest golf course on Earth, it will not guarantee you lower scores)
- Take a horse ride from Furnace Creek into the hills (or a carriage or hay ride around the date groves)
Millionaires, Miners and Mules
- Explore the impressive ruins of the Keane Wonder Mine (and keep your eye out for "fake gold")
- Walk around Harmony Borax Works, the home of the "Twenty-Mule Team"
- Tour Scotty's Castle to see the luxurious result of a true friendship between a millionaire and a gold prospector
- Drive into the Pinyon Pine forest to see the strange beehives of the Charcoal Kilns (used to make charcoal to melt the ore of local mines)
Off-road Adventures
- Drive through the twisting turns of Titus Canyon (passenger cars usually okay too!), and keep your eyes peeled for petroglyphs and Leadfield ghost town
- Venture out to the awesome Eureka Valley and its giant "booming" sand dunes
- Take the trek to Chloride City Ghost Town (and don't miss the view from Chloride Cliffs)
- Go past "Teakettle Junction" to the Racetrack to ponder over the tracks of the moving rocks
Geologic Wonders
- Hike up Mosaic Canyon to view polished marble canyon walls
- Take a spin around Artist's Drive to see all of the colors of the rainbow in rock and sand
- Walk under the Natural Bridge
- Take in the weird and wild world of the Devil's Golf course, surrounded by jagged salt crystals growing on an evaporated lake bed
